Pour your own pancakes

Here is the entrance to DeLeon Springs, its a state park you stop at the gate and pay by the car, unless you have more than four and then I guess you pay extra.  This spring is one of the many natural springs in Florida. Each of the springs maintain a constant temperature of 72 degrees year around, mystifying to me.  I really didn't know what to expect.  I went there simply to experience the pour your own pancakes that I have heard about since Ive been wintering down here. Its crazy close maybe 40 miles, what was I waiting for?

Below you can see my trusty copilot directing the way. Notice how she is clutching her purse, she may not trust my driving.

Here we are headed to the restaurant, dose the smile give away the anticipation?

OOh! and there are lots of other dinners, good thing we were only a party of 2 or we would have had to wait, a long list was growing. My youngest brother used to travel for work and always said pick a restaurant that is busy, it usually means it is a very good place to eat. So in accordance to his advice this place was going to be excellent!!!

Well, they don't call it the Old Sugar Mill for nothing. You can see the water wheel a reproduction of the original, very impressive. Sugar production was a trend in Florida for awhile during the 1800 hundreds, but was not viable due to poor climate and Indian interference. The Sugar Mill at this location was the only water powered Mill in Florida.

Pour them cakes Patti!
They give you an unlimited amount of batter. Patti got the regular batter and I chose gluten free, it was really good.

Yum Yum! they give you a choice of three syrups honey, maple or black strap molasses. I liked mixing the maple and molasses. It was such fun!
Never in New York would they allow you to get near this hot griddle unless you filled out a waiver of release of responsibility. They do warn you numerous times "Watch Out Its Hot!"

Ok, I know you're dying to know how many I had. Ok, I had seven normal size cakes! I didn't eat anything the rest of the day, didn't have to I was Soooo full. I'm already planning my next trip.
