My trip to Putnam county Florida.

Charlie and I took a lovely trip to historic Putnam county last week. We had a yummy picnic when we got there at a nice little park along the St Johns river.  I don't know the exact facts but the St Johns is one of the biggest rivers in Florida. Whenever you hear about the Manatees they are usually in the St Johns river. People usually go and see them when the weather gets cold and they move into the little creeks to be warm that are formed from natural springs that flow into the river. These creeks maintain a constant temp of 72 degrees year around. ( I do know this because I have gone there and seen them)

Sorry, I digressed a bit.
We were actually in Putnam county to go to a parole hearing in their courthouse, involving an inmate friend of Charlies that was hoping to be released (he sadly was not. The hearing was suspended to a later date due to lack of some testimony) . Its a very sad story that took place in the 70s under old Florida law. The then 17yr old was involved in a hold up involving a shooting, (not a death) he got 2 life sentences at that time and has served 38 yrs since then. The man is now 55yrs old. Now with the new laws you can't give a teenager life sentence for such a crime; under current law he would have gotten 17ys at most.

well, anyway, it was my FIRST time in a real court! I tell you I was so nervous, ( I don't even really know why.) I had the same feeling I get when I'm at a fast auction; I get all stiff and try not to move my arms or head so nobody thinks I'm bidding, ( I did that once and ended up with a very old ratty pair of binoculars!) I was so stiff when the judge finally called the first recess I could hardly get up, my muscles were so cramped from holding so still!
When we went back in I had loosened up a bit and relaxed in my seat, behind other people so I would not (get called on??) be noticed.  Seriously! Alice! get ahold of yourself!
Charlie was as cool as a cucumber; he even got up and testified to the judge; he had to raise his right hand and swear to tell the truth and everything!!! I felt like I was on Perry Mason.  Being that I had really never seen court proceeding in real life only on TV; who didn't watch the O J trial.  I have a whole different felling about it now.  It's very emotional, you really get into the feeling of it; the examination and questioning by each attorney its very competitive. I can say I have a totally new outlook on the whole process.
It was a positive experience, after I loosened up and relaxed, and realized they wouldn't make me buy anything.

Above are some of the sights on the court grounds the tree is over 150yrs old WOW!
The mural was on a wall right across from the courthouse.

On our way home, I was smiling really big because he had just taken me to McDonald's for dinner, my favorite.

Zoom Zoom. it was evening before we started home. A beautiful time of day in Florida.

Always time to learn new things.
