We're Here !!!

Hello, we're finally here.  Feels so good to be back in "summer."  It's hard to describe but it really feels like July all over again. I'm planning my garden hoping for a productive one. Charlie is going to build a raised bed for me because it's crazy difficult to manage this soil, even with tons of compost it refuses to hold nutrients or water. Wish me luck!



On our way down we Stopped at the Georgia welcome center and posed for a couple pics, it's so fun to pretend.





lots of outside work on plants will be needed. The bottom pic is of the experiment I did with potted plants at the end of the season last year.  I put all the houseplant type plants on the north side of the house, placed them in dish sink pans with holes drilled into the sides about 2" up the sides and placed them under the open eves for water.  Florida gets tons of water and crazy heat and sun in the summer.  Low and Behold ! the plan worked.  I love my house plants but can't have them in the house sadly, last year we had a soil nats infestation.  Soil nats live in the surface of the potted plant soil UGH! they were in the house but now they are OUT!! I love plants but not bugs flying in my mouth every time I try to talk LOL!

Yup! You guessed it the cat place, where you can drink your drinks, munch your snacks and pet cats the whole time, or if your like me you sit and watch the cats the whole time.  Tori was of course in her glory, petting a smooching cats everywhere.  Each of the cats have a pink or blue ribbon on them identifying them as male or female and with their name so you can look them up on a paper, that is on a table in the room, so you can tell how old they are.  I did find it very interesting watching the different cats interact with each other and us. They have little treats you can buy to entice them to come to you to be petted.  Tori was like this practically the whole time, this is her "happy place," amongst cats. Goodness she can go on and on about the virtues of each cat and she only met them once. This cat below is my kind of cat, wonderful to be seen but not touched. I love the trailing days of fall, the light is different and the air feels just right. It always amazes me how the sun casts such a different kind of lighting onto the trees and other green thing this time of year almost like a spotlight but not harsh or hot.  I had a wonderful crop of raspberries just enough for a couple handfuls each day they were fun to watch progressing over the summer. At one point I had a scare. Some of the raspberry bushes got some kind of grub egg in them, I forget the name now but it lays an egg somehow that causes the top 3 inches or so to wilt. I googled it and got directions on how the save the plant and I think  I caught it in time. PHEW  I The garden as a whole is wonderful, a wild but productive place.  We have this one pretty maple tree in our backyard but unfortunately it may go next year we need the space to plant some fruit trees. I hate to cut trees but they grow like mad here.  I’ll leave you with my b

This is the last post of the winter season, hope to see you in the fall. Everything is wrapped up here in Florida so we are ready t “migrate” north for the summer.  I’ve enjoyed chatting with you and will miss our times together.  So long for now.
